Century of Heritage and Collaboration:

Representation of Dutch speakers in Belgium within the Language Union

 

Remark:

The following project plan highlights the joint efforts between the Flemish Club for Arts, Sciences and Letters (VC-KWL), Muntpunt, Het Huis van het Nederlands and De Buren to represent Dutch speakers in Belgium within the Language Union. This happens in the context of the VC-KWL as a cultural heritage organization that works transsectorally for cultural expressions of significance.

1. Project Overview:

This project celebrates the 100-year commitment of the Flemish Club for Arts, Sciences and Letters (VC-KWL) as a cultural heritage organization. In collaboration with other Language Union members in Brussels, including Muntpunt, Het huis van het Nederlands and De Buren, the VC-KWL uses its century of expertise to represent Dutch speakers in Belgium within the Language Union. The project will connect historical cultural expressions with the present and future, with cultural heritage as a guideline.

2. Project Objectives:

  • Recognize VC-KWL's century of cultural heritage work and use it to represent Dutch speakers in Belgium within the Language Union.

  • Using cultural heritage as a bridge between past, present and future to strengthen the meaning of the Dutch language and culture.

  • Emphasize a cross-sectoral approach involving all forms of cultural expressions.

3. Partners:

  • Flemish Club for Arts, Sciences and Letters (VC-KWL)

  • Muntpunt: A cultural and community center in Brussels.

  • The House of Dutch: Organization that promotes learning the Dutch language.

  • De Buren: A platform for cultural exchange between the Netherlands and Flanders.

  • Other Language Union members in Brussels (to be listed)

4. Project Activities:

A. Heritage Connection and Continuity:

  1. Heritage Walks and Tours:

    • Organize heritage walks that connect historical cultural expressions in the city with contemporary context.

  2. Historical Expos and Workshops:

    • Create temporary exhibitions and workshops that explore cultural heritage from different sectors.

B. Present and Future of Culture:

  1. Interactive Lectures and Panel Discussions:

    • Organize events that highlight the importance of cultural heritage in the contemporary context and discuss its role in the future.

  2. Heritage and Art Projects:

    • Facilitate collaborations between contemporary artists and historical heritage to create new meaning.

C. Cultural Exchange and Cooperation:

  1. Interdisciplinary Collaboration:

    • Promote collaboration between sectors such as literature, art, science and more, to showcase the richness of cultural heritage.

  2. Educational Programs:

    • Develop educational programs for schools and the wider public to raise awareness of cultural heritage.

5. Project Timeline:

Note: The timeline is preliminary and may be adjusted during the planning phase.

  • Month 1-3:

    • Kick-off meeting in recognition of VC-KWL's 100th anniversary and agreement on activities.

    • Initial planning of heritage walks, exhibitions and lectures.

  • Month 4-6:

    • Organization of heritage walks that connect cultural expressions from the past with the present.

    • Setting up historical exhibitions and workshops that span sectors.

  • Month 7-9:

    • Organization of interactive lectures and panel discussions that highlight the importance of cultural heritage in the present.

    • Facilitating art projects that reinterpret historical heritage.

  • Month 10-12:

    • Fostering interdisciplinary collaborations that showcase cultural heritage across sectors.

    • Implementation of educational programs to raise awareness of cultural heritage.

6. Budget: Note: The budget is an estimate and should be refined during the planning phase.

7. Evaluation and Impact:

8. Conclusion:

This unique project, which recognizes the VC-KWL's century of cultural heritage work, joins forces with

other Language Union members in Brussels to represent Dutch speakers in Belgium within the Language Union. By connecting historical cultural expressions with the present and future, this project emphasizes the significance of the Dutch language and culture and its transsectoral relevance.
